Alta Lake can be found just outside of the popular resort of Whistler Village along Hwy 99. It lies at an elevation of 642 meters and has a surface area of 1.1 square kilometers. It is connected to Green Lake via the River of Golden Dreams.
There are three beaches on Alta Lake. Lakeside Park has a small beach, picnic tables, a play area and a canoe rental facility.
Rainbow Park has a sandy beach and the water is shallow, making it a great place for families. There are picnic tables and outdoor barbeques.
Wayside Park is close to Whistler's Creekside neighbourhood on the lake's south side. It too has picnic tables and there is a kayak rental facility here.
There are some nice hikes in the area and the Village Trail makes for a nice walk or bike ride to Whistler Village.

Getting here: Lakeside (travelling northbound): take the first turning on the left after passing Nordic Estates (which has a pedestrian overpass) from Hwy 99 on to Hillcrest Drive, then take the first right and the first left to get to Lakeside Road; to get to Wayside Park, keep following Hillcrest Crescent; Rainbow Park: turn left on to Alta Lake Road after passing Function Junction (for northbound travellers)
