Quick Info
(more...)
The chief is a 710-meter granite rock rising up above Squamish. It has three main hiking peaks, of which the First Peak, or South Peak, is the lowest at 610 meters. The Second Peak, or Centre Peak has an elevation of 655 meters and the Third Peak is the highest at 710 meters. The trails to the top are steep and sometimes slippery.
There is a long staircase at the bottom if accessed from Stawamus Chief Provincial Park. A turn to the right off this staircase leads to a bridge over a waterfall. Continuing on across the bridge and along the trail on the other side will take you to Shannon Falls Provincial Park, which can also be the starting point of your hike. Continuing up the Chief there are several trails options leading to the various peaks with some spectacular views along the way. Further up there are also some ladders and chains before you get to the top. Despite the steepness of these trails some locals run up it on a daily basis! The Chief is also extremely popular with rock climbers and boulderers.
